Research in Polymer Science was organized by Profs. Sarah Morgan and Sergei Nazarenko of the University of Southern Mississippi. Twenty undergraduates from universities across the country participated in the oral and poster sessions. First place paper award was received by Katherine Regan, Texas A&M University; 1st place poster award was Sai A. Krovi, UMass Amherst; 2nd place paper Anna Kinsella, St. Louis University; 2nd place poster Ray D. Dria, Ashland University; 3rd place paper Kyle Anderson, Iowa State University; 3rd place poster Mary Beth Anzovino, Williams College. The program also included a pizza lunch for attendees and advisors sponsored by USM School of Polymers and High Performance Materials. The next undergraduate research symposium in polymer science is planned for the 2007 ACS fall meeting in Chicago. |

| Kathleen Havelka also presented Dr. Joe Salamone(Bausch and Lomb retired) with an award for Leadership in International Outreach. Prof. Bert Meijer (Eindhoven) was honored for his receipt of the ACS Award in Polymer Chemistry.
Rohm and Haas Company representatives Katie Hunt (ACS President-Elect) and Erica Martin (POLY Member-at-Large) were on hand to present Prof. William MacKnight (UMass Amherst) with the Paul J. Flory Polymer Education Award.
POLY saluted its invaluable volunteers as well: Reddy Venumbaka (Texas State University) for his dedication to Polymer Preprints; Prof. Bob B. Moore (USM) for his legacy as POLY treasurer ending in 2005; and Prof. William Daly (LSU) for his continued counsel, advice, hard work and dedication to the best interests of the Division. |
