Purpose: To recognize outstanding industrial innovation and creativity in the application of Polymer Science, conducted by individual scientists or research teams.

Nature: The Award consists of a plaque and an honorarium in the amount of $2000. The award is usually presented at the Industrial Sponsors program during the Fall National ACS Meeting of even numbered years. The recipient is expected to present an address at a symposium organized in his/her honor. Reasonable travel expenses to the symposium are paid in addition to the honorarium.

Establishment and Support: The award was established in 1999 and is administered by the Polymer Chemistry Division. The award is supported by the Industrial Sponsors Group. The first award was presented at the Fall 2000 American Chemical Society meeting. Previous awardees have included W. H. Mandeville, S. R. Holmes-Farley, A. D. English, L. M. Robeson, Bill M. Culbertson and Craig J. Hawker.

Rules for Eligibility: Nominees will be selected on the basis of creative polymer science conducted at any industrial research facility. Aspects of the work must have been published in the open literature, which includes either patents or technical journals. The award shall be granted to an individual or research team for furthering industrial polymer science. The award shall be granted to an individual or team without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.

Nomination Procedure: All submission and review of nominating documents is now being handled electronically. The nominating package, including a synopsis of the accomplishments of the nominee, curriculum vitae, and a maximum of five reprints or other supplementary material, shall be submitted electronically as pdf files to the Awards Chairman for distribution to the selection committee. Included should be: 1) a clear description of the nature of the work and the results achieved, 2) the methodology used to carry out the work, 3) results of commercialization of the work or an evaluation of the technical or scientific significance of non-commercialized work, 4) demonstration of the contributions by all those included in the nomination, and 5) at least two seconding letters for others familiar with the work. A maximum of three supporting letters, which contain factual information about the candidate not provided in the nominating document, may be submitted. A single pdf file containing all the nominating and supporting information is preferred but separate pdf files are acceptable. Nominators are asked to avoid excessively lengthy nomination packages and adhere to a 100 page limit for the entire package.
